My illustration for Time Magazine?s ?Person of The Year? hits
the newsstands. While I?m very honored to be validated by a
periodical that is nothing short of an American institution,
the moment is bittersweet because I?m very disappointed by
Obama?s appointment of Rick Warren to deliver his invocation
during Obama?s inaugural address. Rick Warren is against gay
marriage and reproductive rights, and he does not believe in
evolution (maybe he offers himself as proof of lack of evolution).
I understand that Obama is trying to appeal to conservatives and
evangelicals, but this move is symbolically a slap in the face to
many people. Warren is not a uniter, but a divider?
he is intolerant in many of his views. I still think Obama is the
best choice for president, but I can?t condone Warren?s involvement
in Obama?s inauguration, no matter how insignificant it is.
While I?m on the subject of gay marriage, I will be donating a
chunk of the proceeds from an inauguration poster of Obama
I was asked to create to the movement to overturn Prop 8.
At first I was considering pulling my inauguration poster,
but I think re-directing funds from it to put into a cause I care
about is actually more constructive. Plus, I wouldn?t want
withdrawing the image to come across as a blanket boycott of Obama.
I?m sure I will ultimately disagree with Obama about many things,
but I think I will agree with him on more. I think it is important to
speak one?s mind, but also to not let the narcissism of petty
differences sabotage our unity and progress.

Torstein Horgmo WIN X TRAIL
With the previous days Quarterpipe session locked away, thousands
of stoked out Japanese snowboard fans packed the Tokyo Dome for
the legendary Big Air competition of the phenomenal 6Star Swatch
TTR Nissan X-Trail Jam. In an outstanding final Norwegian rider
Torstein Horgmo managed to pull out the best tricks of the night to
win the second of two formats, but it was Shaun White (USA) who
with the highest combined score from both the Big Air and the
Quarterpipe, claimed the first 6Star TTR Title and 1000 ranking
points of the 08/09 Season...

sr: How did Zephyr team split up?
The business partnership that revolved around the team went through
a transition and it revolved around capital. Jay and his stepfather split
off to start Z-Flex after Zephyr, and I started riding for another team
from North County that had with the world champions at the time,
Bruce Logan and Torger Johnson. Those guys were mentors to me
because they had proved themselves in competition as well as the fact
that they were soul skaters, and they had a combination of both things
that worked. So I joined the team they rode for, the Logan Earth Ski
Team, so I could train for becoming the Men?s Overall World Professional
Skateboard Champion, which was what I aspired to be. I didn't know
if I was going to make it that far, but I felt that these were the guys I
had to train with at the time in order to get there. At the same time
Stacy Peralta joined G&S. That was before either of us had any concept
of starting our own companies. We both needed some sort of sponsorship,
so we joined the teams because not only did they have the funding to
keep us going, but they also made good products. Skateboarding was
pretty primitive at the time. Urethane wheels had just came out, we
were riding boards that were made of oak, we weren't riding concaves,
and we were just barely starting to ride kicktails. So these were the
companies we went with to forward our careers as professional
skateboarders. We had just come out of the junior amateur ranks,
and we had just broken the ice as far as being pro skaters, but we
were still a major threat to all the older skateboarders.
They knew it when they saw us pick up these big sponsors, and
they were like, ?Whoa!?
This is very unusual
The Whistler Blackcomb ski resort reopened Wednesday morning, with officials saying they've determined that ice caused a gondola tower to collapse the day before.
Doug Forseth, the senior vice-president of operations at Whistler Blackcomb, said experts inspected the damaged tower overnight and determined the damage was likely caused by what he called "ice jacking."
The damaged tower was constructed from two large pieces of metal tubing that were welded and bolted together, but somehow water managed to get inside the joint, Forseth said.
When the water froze, it expanded and caused the tower splice to rupture, a situation referred to as ice jacking, he said.
"This is very unusual. I can think of only one other case in North America where this has happened," he said.

Big Daddy Kane Montreal Concert Postponed to March 27th2009
Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Big Daddy Kane Canadian
Tour has been postponed. Old school legend Big Daddy Kane will now
be coming to Montreal on Friday March 27th, 2009.
He will be performing at The Saints, 30 Ste-Catherine W. All tickets
purchased for the Dec. 19th date will be honored for the new date.

GIRLS at SKDW 09
Oakley has announced that they will be sponsoring the first ever female
contest at the famed Shakedown snowboard contest in
Mont Saint-Sauveur, Quebec. In its seventh year, The Shakedown is the
biggest professional snowboard event in Canada drawing a top
international field of competitors, industry leaders and media, leading
to a huge crowd of spectators and coverage of the event. This winter
will be the first time that a girls contest has been held at the event.
The men's side of the event will be invitational with an am pre-qualifier
for a few select spots to compete in the main event with the invitees.
The ladies will ride and compete on the same jump and rail setup as
the guys but be judged separately to take home a part of the $35,000
cash purse. Oakley has been a huge supporter of female snowboarding
and, by backing this event for the ladies, they once again show
dedication and support to female snowboarders. Check back for more
details on the event, invited riders and info on what?s sure to be the
biggest female professional snowboard event in Canada.

Today he?s a regular X-Games judge. During the 2006/07
World Series of Poker, Brushie was an official team photographers.
His passion for the sport are clearly reflected in his craft.

R.A. The Rugged Man
One of Hip Hop's most controversial figures, R.A. The Rugged Man comes
to Montreal on Wednesday, December 10th. He will be performing at
Les Foufounes Électriques, 87 Ste-Catherine E., in the heart of downtown.
R.A. The Rugged Man started rapping at the age of 12, where he quickly
gained a reputation in the New York battle scene. At the age of 18, the
Long Island native was the subject on a nine label bidding war, eventually
signing to Jive records. He was soon dropped for his outrageous behavior
and on-stage antics. In fact, he was banned from performing live in most
of the United States for over three years, banned from recording studios
and banned from nearly every rap label that ever existed.
Despite his notoriety (or perhaps because of it) R.A. The Rugged Man has
worked with everyone from Mobb Deep to Notorious B.I.G, as well as
producers such as Erick Sermon and the Trackmasters. He was featured
on all three of Rawkus' Soundbombing albums and is a regular contributor
to magazines such as Vibe and King. He has released one album,
"Die, Rugged Man, Die" featuring Killah Priest and Wu-Tang Clan's Masta Killa.
Accompanying R.A. The Rugged Man on tour is Philadelphia rapper Reef
the Lost Cauze and The Lyricists from Michigan. Joining them on stage
will be Quebec's very own Chemistry and MC La Sauce. Music for the
concert will be provided by DJs Kid Kebec & Manifest, and hosted by
MC Dirty Taz
