The Backpacker Concert Series comes to Montreal Wednesday, January 23rd Featuring The West Coast's Wildchild and The Faculty.
The 2008 Backpacker Concert Series comes to Montreal on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 at The Saints Showbar. The show will feature some of the best in Underground Hip Hop, including Wildchild and The Faculty, considered two of the best from the West Coast Rap Scene Wildchild is a founding member of The Lootpack, alongside Madlib and DJ Romes. The Lootpack is best known for the West Coast classic, Soundpieces: Da Antidote. Wildchild has just released his second solo album, Jack of All Trades Since 1999, The Faculty has been part of the California Underground scene. The group consists of founding members Trigonometry and Damon Mondell, aka Mr. Blue Juice. They created their own independant label, D&H Records. They will be joined on stage by Montreal's Loe Pesci and The Narcycist. Music provided by DJ Manzo. The Saints Showbar is located at 30 Ste-Catherine W., corner St-Laurent Blvd. Metro St-Laurent. Doors open at 8:30pm, Show starts at 9:30pm. Tickets are only $10 in advance or $14 at the door. Tickets are available at all Admission outlets (admission.com), Off The Hook (1021 Ste-Catherine W.) and City Styles (1186 Ste-Catherine W.). This concert is presented by Dreamskai Entertainment in association with Escape Entertainment. Thanks to Subaru, this winter the DC team will be well outfitted when they visit the MTN.LAB! The company chose to give two fine autos to DC, placing them at DC's private snowboarding R and D facility (and Ken Block's private house) for the team to use.
Ken has kept a personal Subaru WRX STi in the garage at the MTN.LAB for years, relying on its 4WD, a system Subaru is world renowned for, to get around Utah's icy snowy roads. With the unique Subaru AWD system that comes standard in all their cars, traveling up and down to the MTN.LAB has been a cinch for Ken. Now that Subaru has donated two cars to the LAB, DC's team has cars to use too.
About the donation of the two cars, Ken said, "With Travis [Pastrana] and my own factory rally racing team deal, it's a real natural fit for Subaru to give us the cars for the team to use at the MTN.LAB. They are a great company to work with, and there simply isn't a better car for the conditions and terrain around the LAB."

Where the hell is all the money?
A New York Times article said recently this business we?re in, skateboarding, is a $5 billion a year industry. This astounding figure brings two questions to mind; how is there so much money being poured into something that?s totally illegal everywhere you go? And where the hell is all the money going? Two things for sure; not in my pocket and certainly not into building adequate places where skateboarders can actually do the one thing that continues to keep skateboarding alive. And that?s to skateboard.
So why has it continued to thrive? Well, by our very nature we?re a creative group, a persistent group and a somewhat lawless one. If we?ve been told not to skate, we leave and come back only in the middle of the night with lights and generators. If a rail?s been knobbed, we de-knob. If a ledge has been skate-proofed, we unskate-proof it. If there are cracks in the concrete, we bondo them. If there?s a kink on the end of an otherwise perfect rail, we cut it off. It?s what we have to do.

Le dimanche 20 janvier prochain, Val Saint-Côme sera la montagne hôtesse de l'annuel ATLAS BANKED SLALOM au profit de la fondation pour la scélorose en plaques. Comme à chaque hiver depuis plus de 3 ans, en collaboration avec plusieurs compagnies de l'industrie du snowboard, se déroule cette compétion sans but lucratif afin de pouvoir donner un coup de pouce à ceux qui en ont grand besoin.
Au menu, une typique compétition de type "bank slalom" dans un parcour sans trop de difficultés, afin que tous puissent y participer. De cette manière, on peut y retrouver plusieurs catégories favorisant la rivalité entre amis, mais surtout pour le gros fun de la chose!
On y retrouve une catégorie Adulte Homme et Femme, 14 ans et moins ainsi que la légendaire catégorie OLD SCHOOL, comprenant tout ceux qui désirent enfiller leurs vieux équipement des années 80-90. C"est l'occasion rêvée de pouvoir faire le fou avec un "one-piece" mauve fluo sans avoir l'air fou!
Les inscriptions se feront sur place au coût de 10$ par personne, qui iront directement aux profits de la Scélorose en Plaques.
Venez tous en grand nombre, c'est pour une bonne cause!
L'événement Burton EL NINO JAM aura lieu ce samedi 12 janvier à Avila. On invite les jeunes de 15 ans et moins à venir rider un parc réservé pour eux dans une ambiance jam amicale. Une journée de perfectionnement juste pour les kids avec prix de présences et de talents.
